St. Anthony of Padua offers a wide variety of extracurricular opportunities for students. The clubs and activities listed are the current programs available with more clubs being added throughout the year. Since we believe extracurricular activities enhance student life, we are always open to suggestions to add more opportunities for our students.
Art
The art club meets in grade-level sessions throughout the year and focuses on a variety of techniques. Students use materials and processes not available during school-day art classes. The work is displayed for all to enjoy.
Choir
Choir is open to students in grades 4 through 8. The choir helps students strengthen their vocal ability and build vocal independence through various vocal warm-ups, songs, and part singing. The students in choir lead the songs for Mass, do community outreach by singing at area nursing homes, as well as prepare diverse repertoire for school concerts. Students in choir also have the opportunity to sing with State Honors Choirs and participate in the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) Solo and Ensemble Contests.
Coding
The focus of the coding club is on helping students develop problem-solving and computational thinking skills. Students will also come away with both the knowledge of professional programming languages and the conceptual understanding needed to learn new languages.
Drama—Spring Musical
Auditions for the musical are typically open to students in grades 1 through 8. Being part of the musical cast allows students to build stage presence, gain an understanding of what goes into preparing a musical, and build on their dance, acting, and vocal ability in a musical theater setting. Students in grades 6 through 8 can apply to be part of the crew if they choose not to audition for the cast. Being part of the crew allows students to explore their artistic and leadership abilities. Students on crew help build the set, paint and construct props, and serve as stage hands during the show. As a part of the stage crew, students will help with scene changes, microphone changes, lighting, curtains, and making sure props are where they need to be. Being involved in the spring musical teaches students independence and accountability.
Instrumental Music
Partnered with the Padua Franciscan High School music program, St. Anthony of Padua offers private lessons for band and orchestra. Students in grades 4 through 8 are eligible for orchestra, and students in grades 5 through 8 are eligible for band. Students in band and orchestra perform in winter and spring concerts held at Padua High School.
Morning Broadcast Crew
The morning broadcast crew consists of middle school students. These students are responsible for producing our live morning announcements, which are aired every morning in the classrooms
.
Ohio History Day
Ohio History Day is an affiliate of National History Day (NHD), an exciting program that makes history come alive for students. Students learn history by doing history. Students conduct historical research that leads to imaginative exhibits, documentaries, original performances, websites, and scholarly papers. All participating students compete in the regional competition with the opportunity to make it to the state and national competition.
Peer Tutoring
Peer tutoring is a new club that partners fourth and fifth graders with eighth graders to work on various concepts and skills. The peer tutoring club meets twice a week and provides a good opportunity for our older students to demonstrate leadership by helping younger students.
Robotics
A robotics club is a fun way to meet and work with other kids at school while creating the software, hardware, and everything else that goes into making a robot. Students in a robotics club become engineers—designing robots, learning how to build one, and doing the construction work with a 3D printer. Students also work on writing the code to program the robots to perform specific functions and compete in local competitions.
Service Club
The service club at St. Anthony of Padua does not meet regularly but is available to students wanting to help with organized projects in the school. The projects vary in tasks, and students may sign up after the projects have been announced. Students do receive service hours for their help with the projects.
Young Rembrandts
Young Rembrandts is available to primary and intermediate students throughout the year. The Young Rembrandts' method focuses on teaching children to draw, using demonstration and a structured step-by-step process. Through the process of weekly instruction, students are exposed to a wide variety of subject matter, artistic concepts, art history, and mastery of their materials.
